The British Council Azerbaijan in cooperation with the British Embassy Azerbaijan, and Nizami Cinema Centre is proud to announce that the Second British Film Spring Festival will take place from 25 April to 30 April 2016. Every year the festival brings the best and brightest new films in contemporary British cinematography to Azerbaijan.
In Baku the opening premiere will be ‘Brooklyn’ - historical period drama film directed by John Crowley and written by Nick Hornby, based on Colm Toibinn’s novel of the same name. Set in 1952, the film tells the story of a young Irish woman's immigration to Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a romance. When her past catches up with her, however, she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within them for her. This film is nominated for three Academy Awards for this year.
The 2016 festival includes six films. Among them are festival hits such as Brooklyn based on Colm Toibin’s novel, Lady in the Van with Maggie Smith playing the main part, Andrew Haigh’s 45 Years, the winner of Berlin Film Festival; and The Lobster, a remarkable work by Yorgos Lanthimos starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz.

All films will be screened in the original version with Russian subtitles. The venue of the festival is Nizami Cinema Centre. The tickets cost 2 AZN and will be available at box offices of Nizami Cinema centre.
